What multiple intelligence learning style is used for a magazine advertisement activity?

Having your students create an advertisement for a magazine as a work session activity is a great way to bring in different multiple intelligence learning styles to your classroom. The following are used:

  • Linguistic Multiple Intelligence Learning Style
  • Spatial Multiple Intelligence Learning Style
  • Intrapersonal Multiple Intelligence Learning Style
  • Interpersonal Multiple Intelligence Learning Style

Magazine Advertisements usually have some sort of slogan that represents the brand or the product. It is a catch phrase that helps to sell the good or service. In the classroom, the slogan needs to represent the content that the activity is based on. Because slogans are short, it helps the student identify the most important aspect of the content. Slogans require the linguistic multiple intelligence learning style be used.

Photographs or pictures are also used for magazine advertisements. Any type of visual allows for the spatial multiple intelligence learning style to be used. The visual must also represent or relate to the content.

Activities like the magazine advertisement can be done individually using the intrapersonal multiple intelligence learning style or with a partner using the interpersonal multiple intelligence learning style. I do not recommend doing this activity as a group of three or more.

Teachers can differentiate instruction by offering their students a choice of activities that use other multiple intelligence learning styles and the same content. Rubrics must be weighted similarly to ensure equality in grading. Using activity templates can help save teachers a lot of time in the planning process and allows them to insert exactly what their content is.
